Business arising from the minutes
Treasurer Records – Janet plans on covering question on what to do with
historic records being stored at her place at next meeting.
Spotted Owl Breeding Program – No report
Facility for CBC Potluck – Will not work at Janet’s. Chilliwack United
Church costs $75, but has no kitchen. Janet suggested the Heron Reserve as
she knows it well. Camille, the Executive Director said it would be fine
fine to use the facility. The Executive agreed to donate $75 for the use of
the facility. Janet will arrange with Camille. Doors will open at 4 pm,
dinner at 5 pm. It will be a potluck, so bring own food dish. This will be
Saturday, Dec 16th.
November Speaker – Sean Boyd on Snow Geese, Marshes and Management.
November Field Trip – Reifel Bird Sanctuary, Nov 26th. Janne plans on
doing field trip if there’s interest.
Newsletter – Janne doesn’t currently have confirmed 2018 dates for
speakers on record yet—will check with Lee.
Website – Janne will keep the website up-to-date for as long as
Camp River Grant – Helen and Lee worked on Chilliwack Foundation grant.
At this point, we don’t know if it was submitted as Lee has been having
BC Nature FGM 2017 – Janne drove out with Cynthia, 2017 Daphne Solecki
Award Winner, to Vernon on September 21st and stayed at the event hotel.
Variety of interesting evening speakers on everything from snakes to water
conservation. Field trips to Kalamalka Forestry Centre, Bishops Bird
Sanctuary and Okanagan Rail Trail. Cynthia received her award at the
Saturday night banquet and thanked BC Nature members eloquently. See Janne’s
previously circulated report for details.
Harrison Camp 2018 – Janne and Helen worked on the budget details. See
Janne’s previously circulated spreadsheet for financial estimates and
notes. How should the club split profits with BC Nature? We can decide
closer to the event date.
Christmas Bird Count Orientation Meeting – Neighbourhood Learning
Centre, Dec 5th, 6:30 pm. Denis and Janne will be presenters.
BC Field Ornithologists AGM – Fernando reported that the BCFO AGM will
be June 1-3, 2018 in Hope. Jude Grass is lead organizer for the AGM and she
asked for ideas of places to go for birding outings around Hope. Fernando
plans to get back to Jude. BCFO also met with Scott Denkers and Kelly
Pearce, Hope Mountain Centre, to determine meeting facility and food plans.
Eagle Fest 2017 – Discussion was had about whether we should be involved
this year. CFN hasn’t specifically been invited to participate this year.
It also was noted that we never seem to generate new members from the event.
Financial Report – balances as of Oct. 31st (circulated earlier). Janet
noted that the interest from the term deposit hadn’t been added to the
general account earlier in the year, but it has now been included in the
total. Janet moved for adoption of report, seconded by Fernando and approved
by the Executive.

reported in BC, a first for the region; Regulations will be coming into
effect to protect resident whale populations; Herrling and Carey Island
bridge proposal and negative impact on fish populations; Low salmon returns
